North Vancouver, B.C. — March 6, 2025 — Warrior Plumbing is proud to announce its role in developing fifty new homes in a five-unit rental building for səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) families and Elders. The project is part of the broader provincial government’s initiative to build 1,600 culturally appropriate homes for Indigenous residents across British Columbia.
BC Housing’s Building BC mandate includes an Indigenous Housing Fund that provides affordable, culturally relevant housing for families and Elders previously displaced from their communities. This aligns with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, empowering Indigenous communities to engage in local economies and ensure sustainable growth.
Curtis Thomas, President of Warrior Plumbing, co-founder of Kwasen Enterprises, and Tsleil-Waututh Nation Councillor, is passionate about advancing economic development and empowering Indigenous communities. “This project represents much more than plumbing for us,” said Curtis. “It’s about fostering resilience and self-sufficiency in our communities. We are proud to support the creation of homes for our people and to ensure that the projects are culturally appropriate and sustainable.
Warrior Plumbing is honoured to contribute to this project, with many of its employees being Tsleil-Waututh Nation Members who are directly involved in building homes for their own community. This is a testament to the company’s commitment to providing career opportunities and advancing Indigenous leadership within the trades.
Melissa Fahey, Director of Public Works with Tsleil-Waututh Nation, shares: “The 50-unit rental building is a project that has procured Tsleil-Waututh Nation companies and Member-owned companies, which the Nation fully supports with BC Housing.”
The provincial government’s $1.7 billion Indigenous Housing Fund addresses the critical need for affordable housing for Indigenous peoples. Over 3,220 homes have been built or are underway, helping families return to their communities and rebuild their lives with dignity and pride.
